Dennis Turner

Police Chief

Chief Dennis Turner was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina where he was a graduate of Middleton High School. While growing up in Charleston, he was an active member of the Charleston City Police Department’s Explorer Post. Chief Turner graduated the College of Charleston in 1998 with a degree in Bachelor of Arts with a focus in pre-law and while attending the College of Charleston, he was employed by the Isle of Palms Police Department as an Animal Control Officer and also as a Beach Patrol Officer.

Chief Turner began his employment with the Hanahan Police Department in July of 1998; after graduating the police academy, he was assigned to uniform patrol and would eventually assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.  Chief Turner would be promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2002 and would supervise a patrol squad until being transferred back to investigations in 2007 as a supervisor. He would eventually be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and served as the Operations Commander for three years. In 2015, Chief Turner was selected as the new Chief of Police. Chief Turner is a graduate of the Carolina Command College and a graduate of the 256th session of the FBI National Academy. Chief Turner also serves the department as a firearms instructor and DUI instructor.

Chief Turner currently resides in Tanner Plantation with his wife Paige and his two children, Riley and Sadie, and is a member of Seacoast Church. He is involved in the Hanahan Recreation Department’s youth baseball program and is a Lunch Buddy at Hanahan Elementary School. Chief Turner is an avid fan of Carolina football, NASCAR and tries to be a saltwater fisherman.
