Sergeant Barbare was born on June 27, 1977 in Anchorage, Alaska. Sergeant Barbare, being from a military family, grew up and lived in Annandale, Virginia which is a suburb of Washington D.C. After moving to the Charleston area, Sergeant Barbare began his law enforcement career with the Medical University of South Carolina Department of Public Safety until joining the Hanahan Police Department in January of 2000.
Sergeant Barbare graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 1998 and has worked in the patrol division, police communications, and criminal investigations until taking on the role of a supervisor. Sergeant Barbare has supervised patrol teams, police K-9 teams, telecommunicators, and has most recently been assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division as the unit commander. Sergeant Barbare is a certified instructor and carries specific certifications in Emergency Vehicle Operations, OC Chemical Instructor, and Accident Reconstructionist.
Sergeant Barbare continues to participate in the community he works and lives in with his church, Masonic Lodge, and City of Hanahan programs such as lunch buddies which takes place in conjunction with the Hanahan Elementary School.
