Chief Joseph “Bo” Bowers has been in the fire service since 1991, working first as a volunteer firefighter for the Awendaw District Fire Department, and transitioning to a paid firefighter in 1996. Chief Bowers worked with the Awendaw District Fire Department obtaining the rank of Battalion Chief, until 2014 when he was hired as Hanahan Fire Departments Chief. Chief Bowers is an instructor with the South Carolina Fire Academy, he has a Bachelor’s Degrees in Public Safety Administration, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with emphasis on government and policy from Grand Canyon University. Chief Bowers is married to his wife of 28 years Betty Kessler Bowers. He has two children Joe Bowers, and Forrest Bowers.
