Michael Fowler

Deputy Police Chief

Deputy Chief Fowler has lived in and/or worked for the City of Hanahan since 1971. He graduated from Hanahan High School in 1985 and attended Baptist College (Charleston Southern University) where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He is married to Pamela Fowler and resides in the Otranto subdivision with their granddaughter, Emilee. He began his career in law enforcement with the Hanahan Police Department in September 1990 and has had assignments in the patrol division, investigations, and as a patrol shift supervisor. Upon his promotion to Lieutenant in 2000 he served as the Operations Commander overseeing the Uniform Patrol Division, Investigations, Traffic Safety Unit, K-9 Unit, School Resource Officer program, Narcotics, Police Reserve program, and Animal Control.

In 2011, he was reassigned to the Staff Services Division where his responsibilities include Records, Communications, Procurement, Budget Preparation and Fleet Management. He also serves as the Training Officer, Public Information Officer, PSAP Director, Evidence Custodian, and Accreditation Manager. In August 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and in October of 2016 the position was changed to Deputy Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Fowler holds several instructor certifications to include: Handgun/Shotgun, Taser, Field Training Officer, Less Lethal Munitions, Speed Measuring Devices, Low-Light Shooting, and Concealed Carry. He also is a certified Rangemaster and armorer. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, doing yard work and church related functions.
