Hanahan Neighborhood Mini-Grant FY23-24

The Neighborhood Mini-Grant program is designed to foster healthy, safe, and engaged neighborhoods that strengthen our community.

Neighborhood organizations who are looking to strengthen their communities through innovative and creative community projects are invited to apply during open application periods. 

For FY23-24, the City of Hanahan has allocated $1500 for the Neighborhood Mini-Grant Program; the maximum award for this program year will be $500 per applicant.   

Neighborhood Mini-Grant Project Categories
Mini-grant applications must provide a brief description of how the proposed project fosters healthy, safe, and engaged neighborhoods.

Projects are required to engage the community as active participants, and they must address a need(s) or improve quality of life in one of the following categories:

  • Healthy Neighborhood
    • Fostering a healthy community through conservation, environmental stewardship, or healthy lifestyles.
      •  Ideas Include community cleanup and gardens, tree planting, landscaping in common areas, neighborhood litter walks, low-volume irrigation, healthy eating programs, mental health, and well-being programs, play or exercise projects, walking path creation, healthy cooking demonstrations, and Zen Garden creation.
  • Safe Neighborhood
    • Projects or programs that prepare residents with knowledge and tools that teach them how to prevent, confront, and/or respond to situations that threaten the safety of the community.
      • Examples include swim safety, stranger danger, anti-bullying, gun safety, cyber safety, creating disaster kits for the community, working with partner agencies to develop a neighborhood preparedness plan, or your neighborhood's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) activities to support Hillsborough County's disaster preparedness efforts.
  • Engaged Neighborhood
    • Unique projects that engage and bring neighbors together.
      • Examples include neighborhood cleanups, initiatives to assist neighbors in need, events that connect community members, or communications that educate residents about local happenings, services, or projects.

Eligibility

  • Must be part of a Neighborhood, Condominium, or Homeowner Association located in the City of Hanahan.

Application Information

  • Submit a brief write-up of all required materials below to cspencer@cityofhanahan.com
  • Budget
    • Applicants must include a detailed project budget that addresses the total project cost. The budget should also include details on neighborhood-volunteer labor to be expected on the project.
  • Selection
    • Applications are reviewed and approved on a first come first serve basis. Projects should have clear goal(s) or objective(s) and indicate a clear connection between project goals and the program’s purpose. Neighborhood groups will be notified as soon as possible, typically within three weeks after the full application has been submitted.
  • Timeline
    • Projects should be completed within 6 months of the grant award date.
  • Payments
    • The maximum grant amount is $500. To process reimbursement of approved expenses incurred, neighborhood groups must submit a W-9, paid invoices/receipts, and a completed Final Report Form (all provided by Program Coordinator). For groups needing assistance purchasing materials or services in advance, a City purchase order may be used. If a purchase order is sent, after the work is completed or materials are received, the City will pay the company/vendor directly. The City cannot pay in advance for goods and/or services and must follow the City’s Purchasing Policy and applicable Purchasing Laws. Please note that the City of Hanahan does not reimburse tax. The neighborhood group will have to bear the tax unless going through the City’s purchase order process.
  • Reporting
    •  Within 30 days of completing the project, a Final Report must be submitted to the Program Coordinator. The report should include a summary of the project with photographs, if applicable.
