Ribbon Cutting Celebrations

Congratulations on this HUGE milestone! The City of Hanahan is committed to promoting and growing our local business community; we are excited for the opportunity to celebrate your business. We encourage all new businesses to schedule celebrations with us, to invite family and friends, and to alert local media. The City of Hanahan will market the event via social media, send out a press release to our local news outlets, and ensure our Mayor or members of the Hanahan City Council can attend. 

City of Hanahan ribbon cutting celebrations are available to Hanahan businesses only. All required licensing, permits, and approvals for occupancy must be obtained before a ribbon cutting can take place. To request a ribbon cutting, please fill out the information below, and Cam Spencer with our Economic Development Team (EDT) will reach out to coordinate a day/time that works for our elected officials. The ribbon cutting is not scheduled until you receive a confirmation email from the EDT. Please do not publicize your ribbon cutting event until it is confirmed. 

TIPS for a successful ribbon cutting...

Setting the Date & Time

For planning and marketing purposes, ribbon cuttings must be scheduled at least one month in advance. Ribbon cuttings are typically one hour and occur 15-30 minutes into the event. It's highly recommended to have them between Tuesday-Thursday at noon or between the hours of 4-5PM or 5-6PM. 

Basic Steps for Planning a Successful Grand Opening 

Prepare a 3-5 minute intro about your business. Make sure your business execs, managers, and employees attend the event. Don't forget to invite your friends, family, and loyal customer base. Assign 2 representatives from your company who will be holding the ribbon  during the cutting. The City will provide the scissors and the ribbon, unless the company wishes to use their own. 

Refreshments are usually served at these events and strongly recommended. If doing a noon event, then lunch should be provided. 

We encourage you to do giveaways or special offers for your guests. Please coordinate these efforts with the City EDT to boost marketing efforts and attendance at the event.
